Big Willie not a choker

June 17th 2008 10:12
Willie Mason has nothing to prove to Raudonikis and critics alike

Once again Tommy Raudonikis chooses to disrespect NSW's most damaging forward in the Origin arena. It seems big Tommy always has something for Mason to chew and swallow ,such is the Origin legends problem with the man.

Everytime QLD pop the daylights out of the Blues, Mason seems to be the one to blame for NSW's misfortunes. Why?

If anyone can blast through a defensive wall in Origin, its Willie Mason. His defensive game is similiar to that of someone trying to shoot bullets through bricks. He'll mix anything together to ensure passion and performance for the Blues.

Despite the Blues losing 30-0, Mason was the only NSW forward that seemed likely to punch a hole, let alone create opportunity. In a dream night for the Maroons, Mason was still their worst nightmare.

All this bickering about the man going missing in games is rubbish. Mason is scared of no-one, no matter how intimidating their presence. He has always been one to knuckle down and stare the public right in the face such is his persona.

And there's nothing no one can do to change that.

Raudonikis's talk on how Mason is soft on tough occasions is crazy talk not even the Joker himself could conjure up. He never seems to catch up on Mason's overwhelming dominant appearances in both Origin, test and finals footy.

C'mon Tommy, its not like Mason breathes dirt all the time. The man has won a Clive Churchill Medal and a Grand Final, whilst has been involved in every piece of heated confrontation rep football has to offer.

Opposition players love looking for trouble when Mason's on the field such is his aura. They want to send the big man's body flipping like a stunt double, yet he keeps coming back fighting and buckling for his teams cause.

Raudonikis, for one reason or another, wants to squeeze the confidence out of a player that still represents NSW greatest attacking weapon upfront. Like a missle on his shoulder, Mason always fires up for the Blues.

On his day, Mason blows opposition defences to shreads, like a brick house smashed into tiny boulders. Like many hard Blues before him, Mason is one of the few that leaves a terrible odor up north.

Poor old Raudonikis needs to find the millions of clips of Mason's dominant performances in Origin to eat his words. Sure, nobody's invincible in the Origin arena but its true to admit there are few like Mason with the ability to send chills down oppositions skin when charging from close range.

Is it really a sin for the man to speak his mind and build himself up for a big performace? Mason is one of those rare types that will drop the door on QLD and not make a run for it.

There are critics out there that will label Mason a pyscho icon. A bomb perhaps. But there is no doubt when the man's eyes light up, the big Rooster is ready for action, lights out.

Like a street cleaner, Mason will be the key Blue once again in wiping the life out of the Maroons in game 3. Like a Mike Tyson fight bout, Mason will tear in early to the Maroons to show them how lonely ANZ stadium can be for 17 Queenslanders.

If NSW do reclaim the series, lets hope Tommy can jam up his comments on a player that will aim his foremost desires for the Blues on July 2.

Like every other New South Welshmen, Mason will be busting rounds to ensure QLD let go of the dominant aura that has hang over their heads these past couple of years.

But for now, its time for big Tommy to settle his argument on Mason like a grown man and wait for the right time to pick a bone with him.

Its sad to see there are problems with two of NSW's most iconic players. The handling of this situation will do nothing to help the Blues in their quest for Origin glory.

Time to seperate the argument Tommy and start preparing for the war that will determine if Origin is what NSW is all about.

Are you ready to play?

In the heat of battle, is it possible for both Mason and Tommy to form a reunion? Although it sounds impossible, big Tommy has to develop respect for a man that will be ready to blow come Origin 3.

When times up on Mason's career, maybe Raudonikis can regret all his comments, all because he wanted a true Blue to fall.
