Bulldogs should enjoy great Christmas

David Stagg's signature is a big plus for the Bulldogs heading into season 2009.
Stagg recently signed a two year deal that will see him remain at Belmore until the end of the 2011 season.
With Stagg, the Bulldogs have completed a major spending spree that should yield massive success on the field for the club next year.
With only Reni Maitua and Sonny Bill Williams as their major losses, the Bulldogs have managed to lure some key personnel for their 2009 premiership assault.
Brett Kimmorley, Josh Morris, Ben Hannant, Michael Ennis, Michael Hodgson and David Stagg headline a star roster that will put the Bulldogs back on the map after their horrendous 2008 campaign, where they finished with the wooden spoon.
But as Christmas rolls over Sydney, the Bulldogs will be full of spirit heading into 2009, with a forward pack that should rival any in the NRL.
Stagg will start at lock for the Bulldogs next season, alongside Andrew Ryan in the second row in what is a versatile pack.
Ennis now owns the hooking position at the club, and should develop into a fine no.9 if his combination with Brett Kimmorley in the halves sparks up early.
Ben Hannant will be the main man upfront for the Bulldogs.
His experience in Origin last year will serve him tremendously well as he adopts the roll of leader in the Canterbury pack.
In the backline, Morris should introduce some much needed speed to a side that is often considered the slowest in the NRL by a considerable margin.
Morris' inclusion however should add some much needed potency out wide for the Bulldogs.
After a disastrous season 2008, the Bulldogs can look forward to a very satisfying Christmas, knowing their roster should deliver the club a finals spot for next season.
They will also benefit from a relatively controversy free off season, in which Maitua was the only culprit in terms of any off field disturbances.
With Stagg's signature all tied up with a ribbon on it, Canterbury really have bought well during 2008 and eagerly await a 2009 season that may possibly deliver a premiership.
If any team can now come back from a wooden spoon and win a Grand final the next year, it is this mob.
The Bulldogs are the dark horses for 2009 and many will watch in anticipation in terms of how well they rebound from what was one of the worst seasons in their history.
