Fai tragedy fair reflection of world at the moment

January 6th 2009 08:33

When the players at the New Zealand Warriors tell anyone that Sonny Fai is a good man, they mean it - a man with 109 kilograms full of heart, soul and goodwill for all his mates and colleges.

Unfortunately, Fai's dosage of goodwill at Bethells Beach has presumably cost him dearly.

The 20 year old rising NRL sensation was attempting to rescue his brother when he became caught in a rip and was washed out to sea.

Although helicopters and search teams managed to find three survivors, brave Sonny Fai was the one that was left behind, to feel the wrath of nature's fury.

Even though hope will always remain, the situation in regards to Fai's survival is looking very grim at the moment.

Search parties will continue looking for the young Warriors dynamo but many believe this case has become a lost cause.

As the harsh reality sinks in for all those involved with Fai, they will begin to ask why this tragedy has been bestowed on one of League's good guys.

Fai took it upon himself to save his brother in a very dangerous situation at a beach that has a history of serving up detrimental rifts.

Not that Fai cared. The risks were never plaguing his mind when his beating heart told him to save his own brother.

That he did, but instead of receiving awards and cheers of joy, Fai is now suffering the consequences for his heroic actions.

Why?

Although one can not blame nature for the demise of Fai, surely the man upstairs that most of the world looks up to can chip in and save a life.

Indeed events like these will force anyone to doubt their faith and rightfully so.

You only have to look at the emotion displayed by Warriors captain Steve Price to tell you how cruel taking a worthy chance can be.

If people like Fai are the ones to suffer for their goodwill and bravery, than we all know now that this world of ours is pretty screwed up

One still hopes that Fai is out there in the bushes, surviving.

If he is, from all of us here on dry land: Hold on a second longer you young Warrior.
