Farah signature part of Tigers folklore
January 13th 2009 08:10
Tigers Chief Executive Scott Longmuir labelled it as one of the most significant days in Wests history - Robbie Farah resigning with the club for another five seasons which culminated in the hooker receiving the captaincy.
Thankfully for Tigers fans, one of the most important days in their history is one they will want to remember for years to come.
Farah has ended all speculation about his future by pledging his allegiance to the Tigers - the club in which he won a Premiership with in 2005 and nearly snared a Dally M Medal for best player in 2007.
It was little wonder why the Gold Coast Titans were eager to fork out millions of dollars for the 24 year old's prized services.
Farah really is the complete package. His kicking and passing games are excellent, and his tackling technique is very sound.
One thinks that if the Titans got their hands on Farah, they would be certainties to reach the top eight and a fair chance of cracking the top four, given their roster already contains the most skilful halfback in the NRL in Scott Prince.
Unfortunately for the Titans, they may now end up with no hooking options for next season, given first choice no.9 Nathan Friend has already declined a two year extension to his contract.
Even though the Gold Coast were well in the hunt for Farah's signature, the Leichhardt junior was always going to stay with the Tigers.
Home is where the heart is for Farah, and it is at home that he has displayed his best form.
It is likely now that Farah will be an even better player than before, given now he is set to finish his career at the Tigers.
Not to mention he is the most likely to replace Danny Buderus as NSW hooker when the Origin series rolls around in May.
Indeed Farah resigning with the Tigers is a significant step forward in keeping the club competitive in the NRL.
Although they are known for their breathtaking football, the Tigers have failed to make the finals ever since they won the Premiership in 2005.
But with Farah now assured of being a Tiger for the next five seasons, the club can look forward to a bright future.
Perhaps Farah's decision to stay with the Tigers will allow Benji Marshall to also pledge his allegiance to Tim Sheens and co.
Marshall is off contract at the end of 2009 and a switch to Rugby Union is on the cards.
But with good friend Farah now assured to be a Tiger for life, Marshall could indeed head down the same path, hence completing a memorable few days for Tigers fans.
