Gold Coast breath of fresh air

April 19th 2008 00:24
The Titans are in fine form so far this season

What a terrific display of attacking football.

Both The Titans and the Broncos are to be commended for putting on a spectacle that was worth big bucks to see.

These two teams are in terrific form at the moment and it showed last night. The Titans are riding a wave of emotion, much like the Cowboys did in 2004 and the West Tigers in 05 when they won the premiership.

Brisbane look re-energised and are a team that look well placed to do alot of damage in September. Their forwards are the most mobile I've seen in a Bronco's outfit in a long time.

They can offload, pass before the line and this alone orchestrated one of the great rugby league tries, eventually scored by winger Darius Boyd.

They are a team on the mend and look to be heading north very quickly.

The Titans however showed great character when sixteen-nil up. When Brisbane fought back to be within two, The Gold Coast outfit could've been in a spot of real bother.

But to their credit they kept their composure intact and responded with a brand of attacking football that looks set to wreck havoc on their future opponents.

Unlike other teams, the Titans play the game at a million miles an hour from minute 1 to minute 80.

Billy Johnstone is to be congratulated for forming this team into the fittest in the competition. He has made their forwards look sleek and strong and has installed a durability in the Titans pack that would put the Duracell bunny to shame.

This has laid the platform for the likes of Preston Campbell, Nathan Friend and Scott Prince to weave their magic.

Prince is undeniably the form half-back in the competition and if he doesn't play rep football, at least for QLD this year, he might as well pledge his allegience to the Sky blue this coming Origin series.

Against the Broncos he made three try assists and kicked three goals proving how focal he is to their structure while on the offensive.

Both Prince and Campbell are a testiment to the way the Titans play their football. They are both fit and energetic on everything they do.

Campbell in particular produced a fine performance at fullback. He made one line-break, one try-assist and weaved his way to gain 156m for his side.

The Titans fans are bracing for something special this season.

They can sense that Skilled park can become a major fortress for their team. The Titans are yet to lose there this season.

Their team sits alone at the top of the ladder and if their Major sponsor is anything to go by, this team looks set to fly high in season 2008.

If their playing roster remains close to full strength, the Titans will sense that while the iron is hot, they will be a team that will eventually garner respect and premiership glory in the years to come.

Ah,a breath of fresh air at last.
