Is Craig Wing back for Souths?
June 19th 2008 10:30
Remember Craig Wing?
He was the guy that was supposed to execute the possibility of South's ever coming last in the NRL.
He was supposed to give the Rabbitohs an edge in terms of remorse and skill. A high powered inclusion, Wing was mean't to have the effect of what the nucleur bomb had on Hiroshima.
10 minutes into round one and the special one feels the sharp pain of leaving a club that he played with for 9 seasons. Like a syndrome, Wing was left hopeless. A far cry from the man who looked set to roam and drive the South Sydney public threw the gates of ANZ stadium without boundaries.
Wing's presence in Redfern was enough to qualify him for the term 'Universal'. A term that Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes a Court were very well associated with.
Like a rehearsal gone wrong, Wing's night against his former club went from one of pure excitement to one of pure pain and frustration. Little known Riley Brown leaks the most controversial shoulder in Rugby League on WIng's back and the rest is history.
Once the one and only saviour left the field, The Rabbitohs were in no contest to challenge their rivals in what turned out to be a fairly pleasant night for the chooks.
15 rounds into season 2008 and the Roosters are now the heavyweight hitters, while the Rabbitohs represent a team that has had its head split open through a motion that is too hollow to even lead into.
Life can be a bitch.
Unfortunetly for the Rabbitohs, they have let that thought get the best of them. Getting two wins throughout the whole season is as shallow as America's fight for world peace.
Better now than never to be a competitor right? Craig Wing's possible return for the Bunnies this week will be like a medic finally doing an operation on a patient that has been on the waiting list for 6 months.
It is time now for the Rabbitohs to settle on what has taken place this season and never leave a shred of evidence of the woes affecting the club. Wing's return should install a soul of confidence in an outfit, who was by this time last year, building an industry full of hope and success.
Wing's return will ensure South's get more structure, belief and zip in a side that has been close to dead in league's centenary season.
Although his playing time this season has been raw, Wing can certaintly attest to fixing the bluntness of a Rabbitohs attack that would not even frighten a bunch of hustlers high on meth.
Despite Wing's round the clock treatment, his return to first grade has taken longer than expected. When he does come back, expect him to go out shooting with an enthusiasm to die for.
With his own two hands, Wing will be trying to clean up an image of a club that has promised critics a lifetime full of joy.
Now that Wing's back on the playing field, expect blondes and fans alike to start thinking crazy thoughts of a possible revival that could see South's challenge for a finals birth.
Its a long shot but few have the skill and power to turn things round like Craig Wing. After coming home, due to a fallout with the Sydney Roosters, Wing is now able to break out of his trenchcoat that has left his dreams and that of Rabbits fans in tatters.
Having watched just two winning clips of the Rabbitohs this season, Wing will now reach for the impossible in order to fix a club that has vanished like volcano ash in Pompei.
Now that the dust has settled, expect Wing and co. to re-appear with a can of gas and matches in order to reignite the path of Rugby League's most successful club.
