Sacking Moi Moi should be no no for Eels
January 20th 2009 08:13
Parramatta Eels cult figure Fui Fui Moi Moi is facing the sack after he turned up to pre-season training ten days late, putting his NRL career in extreme risk.
Moi Moi was believed to be holidaying in Tonga after the completion of the Rugby league world cup last November.
Moi Moi was scheduled to came back on the 8th of January but has told the club that he was delayed by storms affecting the Pacific regions.
The Eels front rower will confront the Parramatta board to explain his side of the story, but it is believed that the club will sack the Tongan international if his excuse is not valid enough.
Once again the NRL is faced with potentially, another player sacking due to off field disturbances.
Bulldogs lock Reni Maitua and Sharks star Greg Bird have already been sacked by their clubs due to their off field misdemeanours.
Bird has been forced to resume his career in the English Super League while Maitua has found a home at Cronulla.
Now it is Moi Moi's turn to be put under the spotlight against a Parramatta board that will swing the axe if necessary.
Although one feels that Moi Moi will have a solid enough reason to stay at the Eels, what other options are their if the big Kiwi prop was sacked from his club.
Could another of the NRL's true drawcards be released to the English Super League, hence continuing the player exodus in Australian rugby league?
Maybe opposition NRL clubs are ready to pounce on Moi Moi, considering he offers a lot to the table in terms of his raw power and break tackle capabilities.
Indeed Parramatta would be stupid to enforce the law against a player that never really mean't to be late to training.
The Eels really should move along with an off season that has already had its fair share of off field disturbances.
