Sea Eagles ready to unleash 'T-Rex'

January 31st 2009 01:41

New Sea Eagles recruit Tony Williams will add another attacking dimension to a Manly offence that became the most fluent in the NRL last season on their way to a record breaking Premiership triumph.

Williams had already signed with the men from the Peninsula without having played first grade Rugby League for former club the Parramatta Eels.

Regardless, Manly were eager to swoop up a 116 kilogram Winger who has already left a trail of destruction in his wake in his 11 NRL games for the Eels last season.

At 22 years of age, Williams is now on a lucrative contract with the Sea Eagles and will be expected to deliver in a Manly backline that boosts Dally M winner Matt Orford and potent fullback sensation Brett Stewart.

Thankfully for Williams, the Junior Kangaroo will tackle the Sea Eagles' lofty expectations head on because that's just the way he plays.

What comes with a 196cm muscular frame is the ability to charge at anyone who dares to stop the winger in pursuit of four pointers.

Indeed Williams is an enticing prospect for Manly fans, considering the Tongan dynamo is now in his second season of NRL football.

Although a hamstring injury has held back is cause to be fit for Sea Eagles selection, Williams is recovering better than expected and could find himself playing in the World Club Challenge on March 1.

The man they call 'T-Rex' could find himself playing his first match for Manly in front of a hostile English crowd who are in pursuit of the title of World's best Rugby League club.

The pressure will be on from the outset but this is something that should bring out the best in Williams.

His size, let alone his ability to play in the backline or second row, should see Williams become a match winner in the NRL, let alone in the Club Challenge coming up.

If injury steps aside, expect Williams to be an integral part of a Sea Eagles team that will be looking to become the first NRL side to defend their Premiership since Brisbane back in 1992-93.

Good luck trying to stop him.
