South's victory full of lesson and life

June 7th 2008 06:32
Isaac Luke was one of many Rabbits to perform last night

The Rabbitohs needed a moment in space yesterday.

With their premiership dreams in tatters, life at the bottom of the table can be a lonely place.

But somehow against the Warriors in chilly New Zealand, South Sydney opened its eyes to the future. A future with immense sight and promise. A future as bright as Hollywood itself

last night's victory for the Rabbitohs shows a team that is capable of taking on anybody in the premiership regardless who's in it.

There was proof - signed and sealed yesterday, that the glory of South Sydney still means alot to all that put on the jumper.

Players such as John Sutton and Isaac Luke lead the way for a side that is now on a quest for knowledge and hope. A quest for sense, respect and stability.

The only way for South's is up, so all hope now is for the best. It may take time but sooner or later, their world will be solid.

The truth this year has hurt the Rabbitohs, but worldly logic has finally come for the red and green. This season has taught the club all the aspects of life itself. It's not all cut and dry except the fact that the days are bright and the night is dark.

Jason Taylor's men have now learn't that a cinderalla story cannot last forever. Fights will get sparked and its up to the club to get ahead and challenge the call.

They did that last night.

After trailling 14-0 early, the Rabbitohs could've just packed the bags and headed home.

But the side finally played smart. The realities of life are harsh if effort is non existant.

The likes of Sutton, Kidwell and Luke kept the side level in grave circumstances. Captain Asotasi speaking as loud as possible, reaching out to his teammates stressing that the battle ain't over yet.

Playing like boys in the streets, the Rabbitohs started playing differently. Everyone was involved, dying to get their hands on the ball and oblvious to the time they were given to turn things round.

All South's players finally believed in victory, weeks after feeling the aura of defeat. They played right for the club and everything it holds dear.

Most important of all, the Rabbitohs had fun with a game that looked to sink them further into oblivion. How precious two competition points can be.

In the toughest competition in the world, South's have suffered a year of fear and stresses. Their year progressing as slow as a man walking through weed smoke.

Crowd figures have been down and fan rejection is at an all time high for one Sydney's most historical clubs.

With all the negativity comes lies and confessions. Its a two way street, and the Rabbitohs must learn to deal with the presence of failure.

Only they can show that everything is real and cool in a club experiencing tough times.

From yesterday's performance, everything seems bright for now.

Despite the pressure a club like South's is under, the win over the Warriors sumed up a side that promises so much but can deliver so little.

Whether last night's performance was based on destiny, South Sydney yesterday created men capable of performing on the big stage.

It's time for these players to produce from here on in to build the legacy for the oldest club in rugby league.

It's time now for the club to keep a firm leash on things by believing that 2008 can be salvaged.

The sky's the limit and the Rabbitohs now must fly until they come back down.

All the tears and frowns of a sour campaign can cease. The players have to be humble their even playing football for a living.

The time has come for the Rabbitiohs to work themselves out of the mess they are in because history is now made every second. They must crave every lesson that has been put this year and play like they want something back.

Judging by yesterday's victory over the Warriors, things don't always go right but where there is a will, there is a way.

This is life.
