Taumata left red faced

July 31st 2008 08:44
Arana Taumata has blown a great opportunity at the Bulldogs

Its a bizarre mixture of both skill and arrogance that looks set to destroy Aaron Taumata's NRL career.

After the Bulldogs found out Taumata was responsible for breaking a man's jaw in a brawl several weeks ago, they tore up his contract with no hesitation.

Now smoking more holes in his career than Swiss cheese, Taumata may too be forced to switch codes and play overseas.

His latest mis-endevours have postponed what was a flourishing career. Since he was thrust into the Bulldogs starting line-up, Taumata has impressed in his performances.

There were moments where the young Kiwi was in complete control. He has scored some breathtaking tries in games against the Roosters, Rabbitohs and the Broncos.

His performances were such, that fellow Kiwi international Ben Roberts looked to have his future at the Bulldogs stolen by a kid eager for a second chance.

Or so we thought.

Bulldogs CEO Tony Greenberg today tore up Taumata's contract, with it his phoney persona. The young Kiwi could not contain a heart that bleeds the blood of many felonies gone by.

Taumata was originally sacked by the Roosters years ago for allowing his fists to do the talking.

Formerly on a one year contract with the Bulldogs, Taumata had to play through the season with no mis-endevours whatsoever next to his name.

While his speed and agility shook most opponents on the field, his temperament to take the law into his own hands hurt those off it. Unfortunately, it has cost him his career.

On the back of Sonny Bills Williams' departure to France, Taumata had the chance to come from the blindside and take control of a side clearly in need of some spark.

All he had to do was take his one year contract one day at a time. With the suspension of Both Ben Roberts and Lee Te Maari for disciplinary reasons, Taumata was in the box seat.

The young Kiwi should have played life in Belmore with patience. He knew full well he was on his last legs in terms of chances and needed to stabilise his personality to have any chance of succeeding in the NRL.

But with his contract torn up, Taumata must figure out what to do with a man of his talents. The Knights looked an attractive option, but they too will consider the events of today and dwell on the risks of bringing the fiery Kiwi to the Hunter.

From recent reports, Newcastle look set to reject their offer for Taumata.

With his career up in smoke, Taumata must now look to new horizons. From what we have seen, he is a player capable of ejected bums off seats such is he's talent and skill.

After just five first grade games, the young Kiwi had mouths coming down. With the football in hand, he was always above the law, capable of tearing opposition defences apart.

His performance in helping the Bulldogs upset Brisbane at Suncorp quickly gathered much needed momentum for a side lacking in both structure and form.

But after such a promising start to his NRL career, Taumata leaves us quietly.

He alone has freezed a career going north very quickly. He alone chose to throw his chance away of a life playing footy infront of thousands of fans.

Although actions speak louder than words, some actions are best left within.

For Taumata though , it is too little too late.
