Todd Carney takes life for granted

July 23rd 2008 07:58
Todd Carney celebrating victory over the Roosters

He could try a couple of drugs.

And down a couple of drinks.

But nothing compares to the pain of losing a $400,000 dollar contract, with it his career.

After climbing the highest mountain on his way to redemption, Todd Carney has once again stumbled big time.

Everything looked cool and calm. The football on the palm of his hand seemed the perfect match. Always with a trick up his sleeve.

Alcohol crawls on him again and with it, the vibe that comes with urinating on top of a patron in chilly Canberra.

People drive by not noticing the Raiders star hitting his career for six. What looked like a stable man suddenly becomes a moshpit. His career now officially stomped.

Once again the NRL and all of Canberra hullucinate on Todd Carney. All were sweating for the young man to get his act together, and for a moment there, he did.

All the weight coming with being Canberra's saviour allowed Carney to take control and responsibility. His was, up until now, enjoying his best season.

Now dumber than Wayne Carey on drugs, Carney has disappointed everyone at the Raiders, not to mention all of Canberra.

Being the player he is, Carney needs to sit down and think about reality big time. There are millions out there less fortunate that would be better suited to the task of being a role model and leader.

Its bizarre to think a person like Carney could put out the lights on what was becoming a bright future for the Raiders biggest star.

It was Carney that came with weapons drawn against a Roosters side full of experience and power. The young Canberra half tore them apart for a 22 point victory.

That performance was all Carney needed to convince us that his numb lifestyle was over.

A false alarm again.

Judging by his performances this season, Carney looked to be enjoying his football. He was kicking forty-twenties at will and set himself the road for higher representative honours.

The stupid acts seemed to be a thing of the past. Carney was high on life and being in cuffs looked to be the furthest thing from his mind.

Certain substances however take control of certain individuals. Alcohol has taken control of Carney and the fine line between success and failure has been crossed.

Its a great shame to see an incredible rugby league talent roll away, courtesy of the thick skull that comes with being famous.

Accidents always happen, and Carney may yet be cleared of any misendevours caused.

Considering he is cleared, Carney will be swallowing his last chance at a career many will never experience.

Whether Carney wants to hijack his tremendous gift remains to be seen.
